SVC Business Professor and Students Invited to Sports Sustainability Competition
Southern Vermont College (SVC) Assistant Professor Jeb Gorham of The McCormick Division of Business and eight of his students have been invited to the Sports Sustainability Tournament, a first-of-its-kind, national business plan competition for university students, hosted by Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., on April 17 and 18.
The SVC team recently pitched their non-profit sports sustainability project for The Next Play Venture Tournament, a national competition for student-led business plans hosted by Davidson College. The competition accepts both for-profit and non-profit entries and aims to make the sports industry more sustainable. For more details, The Next Play Web site is available at http://thenextplay2015.istart.org. The students worked with Professor Gorham and pitched their Sustainable Urban Sports Synergies concept in short form, a summary and set of financials, and were selected as one of the top ten non-profit competition teams to travel to Davidson College for live pitches and a chance to take home $8,000.
Sustainable Urban Sports Synergies is the culmination of Business Administration and Sports Management project work in the community. The organization’s mission supports a multifaceted approach to solving several sustainable issues that have been linked to vulnerable college students, non-profit organizations and under-served populations. The project focuses on a multi-phase pilot in collaboration with the Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center (Bart Center) followed by the development and launch of a model for replication.
