Students from Southern Vermont College and Albright College Team Up for Alternative Spring Break Project in Reading, PA
During Spring Break in March, six students from Southern Vermont College (SVC) and seven from Albright College are participating in a joint project in Reading, PA. They will be working on a Habitat for Humanity of Berks County home-build project. The SVC students selected Reading as their site projects this year, which inspired Albright students to do the same.
Albright will house the Southern Vermont students during their time in Reading. The SVC students will also volunteer at Opportunity House, a multi-service organization for improving the quality of life for children, families and adults who face various obstacles to independent living.
SVC’s Residence Director and Civic Engagement Coordinator Corie Steinke, Residence Director Jeffrey Sawyer and representatives from Albright are overseeing the projects in Reading.
Each year during spring break, when classes are not in session for a week, these students choose to participate in community service projects. They organize, plan and execute trips which include fund-raising and promotional efforts.
