Assistant Professor in Composition/Communication
Southern Vermont College is seeking 1, possibly 2, full-time Assistant Professors for our Humanities Division, to begin in the Fall of 2018. Successful candidates will have strong credentials in Composition and Rhetoric, Communication Studies, English, or a related degree.
One faculty line will be tasked with coordinating our first-year writing program, teaching a 3/2 course load per academic year, assisting with academic advising and mentoring, scholarship/professional development, and college committee work. Teaching requirements will include regular assignments within the first year writing sequence, as well as other courses across the Humanities division, as needed and depending on the candidate’s expertise.
The other faculty line will consist of teaching a 3/3 course load per academic year, assignments to include courses across our Communication curriculum as well as courses in the First Year Writing sequence. Other expectations with this faculty line include academic advising and mentoring, scholarship/professional development, and college committee work.
A doctorate in your related discipline is desired, along with college-level teaching experience, particularly in composition and writing and/or communication studies. We seek candidates with commitments to excellence in teaching; varied pedagogical methods, including active learning, and peer-to-peer learning; well-developed teamwork and communication skills; and integration of technology into the classroom.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
