Internship FAQ for Employers
|WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP?|
Internships are designed to provide our students with a guided introduction to the professional working world as they begin to mold their career goals. Internship tasks and duties must be designed based on student goals and objectives.
|HOW MANY HOURS PER WEEK WILL THE STUDENT WORK?|
For every one academic credit, the student must complete 40 hours on site (approximately 10 hours per week).
|DO ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE ACADEMIC CREDIT?|
Students who complete internships through the SVC Office of Career Development and Internships receive one academic credit for 40 hours completed with an approved site.
|AM I REQUIRED TO PAY INTERNS?|
The decision to pay an intern is solely at the discretion of the employer. Private, for-profit employers are subject to the U.S. Department of Labor Fact Sheet. If an intern is paid, that person is considered a temporary employee.
|HOW DO I RECRUIT AN INTERN?|
Internship planning begins for students the semester before the course is completed. CLICK HERE for the process and timeline. Contact the SVC Office of Career Development & Internships at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss available internships with your organization.
|WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES AS AN EMPLOYER/SITE SUPERVISOR?|
Site supervisors are required to:
