Humanities Prof. & Northshire Bookstore Publishing Coord. Receive NEPCo Award

4 individuals at NEPCo ceremonySouthern Vermont College is pleased to announce that Chair and Associate Professor Daisy Levy, PhD, of The Hunter Division of Humanities, along with Northshire Bookstore Publishing Coordinator Debbi Wraga (shown in the middle from L-R with two members from Bookbuilders VPs), received the New England Publishing Collaboration (NEPCo) Award for second place. They also received the audience choice award. The NEPCo Award was given for their collaboration project, the Shires Press Series. Awards were presented earlier this month at The New England Publishing Collaboration Award ceremony in Somerville, Mass.

In 2014, Northshire Bookstores/Shire Press partnered with Southern Vermont College creating publishing opportunities for undergraduate students. Faculty from the College work alongside Shire Press staff through a four-course program that gives students hands-on experience with book publishing. To date, nine books have been published, and three authors are slated to publish in May 2019.

Levy said, “We are so proud of the program and this partnership, and being able to represent Southern Vermont College and Northshire Bookstore in such a positive way. The whole event was intensely validating, not just for me and Debbi, but we hope for both the Bookstore/Press and Southern Vermont College – not to mention all the individuals who are part of supporting and building this program from the ground up.”

The NEPCo Award ceremony included ten presentations from midwifery to photo rights to Jerry Garcia – and across books, journals, websites, albums, and Echo Dot. Presented by Bookbuilders, this event educates its members who are new to the industry and rewards those who have achieved meaningful relationships with partners.

Their award was second to Peabody/Essex Museum. The website announcing the winners is available at https://www.nepcoawards.com
