Greg Gilmore ’12 Appointed as SVC Head Men’s Soccer Coach
Southern Vermont College Director of Athletics Michael McDonough announced on Thursday the appointment of Greg Gilmore as the head men’s soccer coach, the 2012 SVC graduate returning to Bennington to become the program’s 18th leader.
Gilmore brings a strong deal of playing and coaching experience to the position as well as a keen familiarity with the College. Five years after graduating, he still holds the record for the most games started in team history with 73. His defensive prowess helped lead the Mountaineers to three-straight New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) playoff appearances, the team getting all the way to the league’s championship game in both 2010 and 2011.
“When the position first opened up, we immediately thought of Greg as a possible successor,” noted McDonough. “The rest was pretty easy. Greg brings to the position knowledge of the game, experience, and- perhaps most importantly- SVC roots.”
Gilmore will also assume a part-time role as an assistant sports information director, using his passion for journalism and experience working in the communications field to support the sports information office- primarily for the spring seasons.
