Carol Conroy, DNP, RN, CENP, Named to SVC Board of Trustees

Carol ConroyCarol A. Conroy, DNP, RN, CENP, has been named to the Board of Trustees at Southern Vermont College. The appointment was confirmed at the College’s February board meeting.

As a professional nursing leader, executive, and educator, Conroy has extensive experience in healthcare. She has been recognized and honored for her strong background in patient safety, physician relations and implementation of evidence-based nursing practices.

“It is great news for the College and for our nursing program to have Carol join the board of trustees,” commented SVC president David R. Evans. “Her accomplishments and reputation as a leader in her profession, her connections to the community, and her longstanding engagement with our students and our nursing program make her an exceptional addition. We are honored that she has chosen to join us.”

Conroy stated, “I am delighted to serve on the Board of Trustees at Southern Vermont College.” “As a nurse and a life-long learner, I look forward to promoting all the wonderful courses of study the College has to offer our students. I am committed to fostering the baccalaureate degree for nurses in our community and excited about the continued collaborative relationship the College shares with Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and other community organizations.”

Since 2009, Conroy served as Vice President for Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) in Bennington, Vt., until her retirement in 2017. She was responsible for planning, organizing and directing the delivery of patient care and support services in assigned areas as well as inpatient, emergency, outpatient, transitional and long-term care.

Prior to SVHC, Conroy was Corporate Vice President for Exceptional Care at Caritas Christi Healthcare in Boston, Mass., from 2007 to 2008; Chief Nursing Officer at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass., from 2003 to 2006; Director of Perioperative Services at Boston Medical Center from 1998-2003; and Director of Perioperative Services at Health Alliance in Leominster, Mass.

Presently, Conroy serves on the Executive Board at Chelonian Research Foundation and Chairman’s Council of the Board of Directors at Conservation International, and she is a member of American Nursing Association (Certified in Executive Nursing Practice). Conroy has served on the Board of Directors at Rutland Area Visiting Nursing Association and Hospice and Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives, and she has been a member of the System-wide Chief Nursing Officer Council at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

She is the recipient of several awards including New England’s Organization of Nursing Leaders, Sigma Theta Tau International, Vermont Governor’s Certificate and Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives. In addition to her presentations at healthcare organizations and other institutions, Conroy has written many publications on nursing management, and patient safety and quality of care.

Since 2017, Conroy has been a Magnet Appraiser for the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC). In 2010 and 2015, Conroy led Southwestern Vermont Medical Center to the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program, which led to the Magnet Prize in 2017.

Conroy received a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Regis College, a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science degree in Nursing administration from Anna Maria College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Cornell University School of Nursing.
