Commencement 2017 Schedule

Ceremony: Saturday, May 13, 1:00 p.m.


After Spring Break, students may pick up graduation announcements in the Bookstore  (open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.).

Graduates will need to pay their student account balance and complete loan exit counseling before they receive their cap and gown.

SVC STUDENT PORTAL: Review your student account balance. “View My Billing” information and share it with the person who pays your bill. All balances need to be paid in full in order to receive your cap and gown and diploma.

Update your address in the Student Portal: Log into the Student Portal and press the EDIT PROFILE button in the top left corner.

Web site Complete Loan Exit Counseling: Go online to, press “Counseling.” Exit Counseling to complete and submit the counseling session. Your FAFSA User Name and Password is needed to access your personal information. Save the confirmation page.

Each year, SVC conducts a Graduate Survey to collect information about post-graduation plans. The results of this survey provide important information on student outcomes like the career paths of graduates, the employment fields pursued after earning a degree at SVC and how well prepared students feel for post-graduation. Students should complete the survey prior to picking up their cap and gown. The survey can be accessed HERE.

GRAD FEST – 2-4 p.m., Burgdorff Gallery

Caps & gowns will be available for pickup as long as the student has fulfilled their exit with Office of Student Financial Services and filled out the online Graduate Survey (see above paragraph). If graduates are unable to attend Grad Fest, they can pick up their cap & gown from Philanthropy Officer Christina Cole in top floor of Birchwood.

If your guests require special parking and seating arrangements at Commencement, please inform Student Life staff when you pick up your cap and gown or contact Dean of Students Heather Quire at 802-447-6323 or e-mail by Thursday, May 4. Be prepared to inform the name(s) of your guest(s), their relationship to you, and what accommodations/accessibility is requested (e.g., to be driven or escorted to the tent, etc.).

4:30-6:00 p.m. – Honors Convocation

Honors Convocation is a celebration of student achievement and will take place in Everett Mansion Theatre with a reception to follow in Burgdorff Gallery.

3:30 p.m. – Graduation Rehearsal

Starting promptly at 3:30 p.m., graduation rehearsal is mandatory for all graduates planning to march at Commencement. Lineup takes place on the front terrace of Everett Mansion. Note: If it rains, lineup will take place outside the library through first-floor hallway. Students graduating with honors will receive their recognition during rehearsal. If, for extenuating circumstances, you cannot attend rehearsal, please notify the Registrar’s Office at 802-447-6324 or by Tuesday, May 2.

Following rehearsal, graduates are invited to a BARBECUE, located on the Everett Mansion terrace. For graduates, the barbecue will be in lieu of dinner in the dining hall.

6:00 p.m. –  Lead Collaring Ceremony (TENTATIVE)
This ceremony is for Radiologic Sciences graduates and will take place under the Commencement tent (front lawn of Everett Mansion).

7:00-8:30 p.m. – Nursing Pinning (TENTATIVE)
The Nursing Pinning Ceremony for Nursing graduates will take place under the tent on the Greystone Lawn (in front of Everett Mansion).

10:00-11:00 a.m. – Commencement Breakfast

All graduating seniors and their family are invited to a Commencement breakfast in the Everett Mansion Library.

11:30 a.m. – Class of 2017 Photograph
The Class of 2017 photograph will take place on the Cascade in the Courtyard of the Everett Mansion. It is important that all graduates are dressed in their cap and gown and in the Courtyard promptly at 11:30 a.m. Purchase information for the class photograph will be available online at a specific Web site, which will be accessed by graduates and their families. Within two weeks after Commencement weekend, SVC’s Web site will post that photos are available with contact information.

12:30 p.m. – Lineup of Graduates
Graduates will line up on the Everett Mansion Terrace promptly at 12:30 p.m. for the 1:00 p.m. Commencement ceremony, with faculty, staff, trustees, honorary degree recipient, and president with cabinet members. After the ceremony, refreshments will be available in the Everett Mansion.

Please notify your family and friends who plan to attend Commencement to arrive early. Commencement begins promptly at 1:00 p.m. A Campus Safety Office will instruct drivers where to park. The shuttle will start at 8:00 a.m.

Friday, May 12, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Dear SVC Graduate to be!
Before you know it, you will be in the ranks of SVC’s alumni. Joining the more than 4,000 alum’s who have graduated, you will learn that graduation does not indicate the end of your relationship with SVC (in fact, the word “Commencement” means “beginning”). There will be many opportunities for you to stay connected with the College. We encourage you to volunteer, share your experiences, come back to campus, and stayed tuned for updates and share your progress through the years following graduation.

As your contact information changes, be sure to update us, so we can keep in touch with the Chronicles, e-newsletters and events happening on campus.
