Hometown: Bronx, N.Y.
Jenny is a member of the Mountaineer Scholar program on campus. She found out about SVC through the Kipp Academy in Bronx, N.Y. and received a scholarship from the College. Jenny is following the career path of her mom, who is a nurse. “I admire my mom,” says Jenny. “I’ve seen her struggle, juggling home life and studying to become a nurse.”
At SVC, Jenny likes getting to know everybody, and she appreciates all the attention from faculty members. Some of her favorite classes have been Anatomy and Physiology with Professor Jennifer Ufnar, English Composition with Professor Michelle Deal, and Global Issues with Professor Tom Redden. During the academic year and summer, Jenny has been a work-study student in SVC’s Development Office, Career Development and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
By taking advantage of the local Green Mountain Express bus service, you can find Jenny at one of her favorite restaurants in Bennington such as China Buffet, Ramunto’s for pizza and Friendly’s for ice cream. Jenny also enjoys going to a lake in nearby Pittsfield, Mass. Occasionally, she’ll make one of her favorite recipes: Pollo Guizado, a chicken stew.
Jenny has traveled to Honduras, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Italy and Australia; in 2009 on “World Youth Day”(with her church group), she even saw the Pope.
Once Jenny earns a Nursing degree from SVC, she might choose to work in a nursing home or pediatrics. Jenny would like to tell others who are considering going to college to not procrastinate – keep track of timing when completing college applications. Her “drive” is her brother and sister back home. She exclaims, “My goal is to move my mom and brother and sister to a safer place.” With a big smile on her face, she’ll make it happen!
