Mai Deo was born in Indonesia, moved to Vietnam with her family for a few years, and at the age of six, her family emigrated to U.S., settling in Manchester, N.H.
She discovered Southern Vermont College on the Internet while searching for colleges that offered a Radiologic Sciences major. “I love SVC’s beautiful campus and the faculty and staff are so nice,” said Mai. She is having a great experience at SVC. Being a tour guide for the Office of Admissions gives her an opportunity to show the campus to prospective students and their families. Mai easily met friends when she came to SVC. In addition to her studies, Mai is a community advisor, tutors English and is a member of the cross country team. She also participates in the Campus Community Dinner Series, a project that invites SVC students and local families with high school-aged children to experience the benefits of family dinners and engage in thoughtful conversation over meals prepared in their campus dining hall.
Her favorite professors are Sarah Knapp, Tammy Kenny, Joan Sakalas, and Provost Albert DeCiccio. Her favorite authors are Henry David Thoreau, J. K. Rowling and Stephen King. She likes to hike, run and hang out with friends. After she graduates, Mai plans to attend graduate school – in an advanced radiology program.
For entering freshman, Mai recommends that they get involved – join a club and get out of his or her comfort zone. Mai lives by the words from the Declaration of Independence: “…We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness….”
